The Life on Mars actor, who was born in England’s north-west, was a keen footballer for many years despite having a passion for acting and music. During the height of United’s success in the 1990s, Simm followed the Reds in between busy and restrictive work schedules, which prevented him from watching one of the club’s most famous games, the 1999 Champions League final.
