Actors including John Simm and Joanna Lumley have put their voices to Mr Men stories for podcasts to raise charity funds.

Other stars taking part in the campaign for children’s charity The Variety Club include Wendy Richard, who voiced Little Miss Splendid, and Neil Fox, who recorded Mr Small and Little Miss Magic.

Lumley read Little Miss Sunshine while others taking part include presenter Tony Robinson and GMTV host Ben Shephard.

Seven books have been recorded and are available on the internet at £1.50 each or £5 for the set.

Ex-EastEnder Richard said she was not familiar with the stories previously: “I’d never read a Mr Man book before. Obviously my generation was Beatrix Potter, then Pooh Bear, and then you progressed on to Enid Blyton.

“I thought this story, Little Miss Splendid, was lovely because it also has a message in it – that pride comes before a fall.”

Fox, who presents on London station Magic 105.4, said his children Scarlet and Jack had picked Mr Small and Little Miss Magic for him.

He added: “A bedtime story with my children is always my favorite part of the day.”
