THE star car from hit BBC drama series Life on Mars is now a regular feature driving around the Mablethorpe area after being bought by a local man.
Nick Day, 32, from Sutton on Sea paid £10,000 for the 1975 Ford Cortina – made famous through the television show.
He said: “I liked Life on Mars but I was more a fan of the car as it was definitely the main star of the show and a lot of people recognise it.”
The car was initially put on eBay for auction but Nick contacted the seller and arranged a deal over the phone. He picked it up from Birmingham on Friday and has been driving it around the town since.
He said: “It’s actually nice to drive and I have noticed a lot of people doing funny double takes when I drive by.”
The award-winning drama series, first shown on BBC1 in January 2006, is a hybrid of time-travelling science fiction and a seventies-style police drama set in Manchester.
When asked about the future for the old car, Nick said: “I was thinking I might hire it out for weddings.”
He added: “It has also been used in the filming of one of the new Daz commercials so hopefully we will see it on television again soon.”
