We are delighted to be joined by director Michael Winterbottom for this special ScreenTalk, where he will be discussing his new film, Everyday, with writer Hannah Patterson.
Filmed over a period of five years, Everyday uses the repetitions and rhythms of everyday life to explore how a family can survive a prolonged period apart.
Ian is serving time in prison, leaving Karen at home in rural Norfolk looking after their four children. Over the five years, Karen intermittently takes the children on the laborious journey from their home in rural Norfolk, to visit Ian in jail. In between these visits, Karen and the children battle on with everyday life. Karen works in a pub, and reluctantly starts a relationship with a friend Eddie, whilst the kids get into fights at school over taunts about their dad.
Disaster strikes when Ian is caught smuggling drugs into prison after being allowed a day out with his family, but somehow they will all pull through, together.
Starring Shirley Henderson and John Simm.
