Lights, camera, action at Uppermill chemists

A television star gave an Uppermill chemist and his staff a day to remember after filming scenes for his next big programme at the local store.

John Simm, who is debuting as a leading man in ITV’s upcoming three-part drama ‘Prey’, spent a day with camera crew at Strachan’s Chemist as well as various other Saddleworth locations.

And store owner Ian Strachan said he and his staff were blown away by the star – and the massive production team that turned up.

He said: “They hired out the car park next to the doctors, as well as all the spaces in front of the shop. It was absolute bedlam but everything went really well and the entourage was incredible.

“They also changed every light in the shop as they didn’t like it – they have just got to have everything spot on.”

Staff members enjoyed lunch with the filming cast and crew and Nicky Goodwin said: “He was lovely and we had such a great day.”

‘Prey’ is the story of a well-liked detective constable found at the scene of a brutal crime with all the evidence pointing towards him.

Arrested and charged, it seems Farrow’s fate is sealed so when he gets the opportunity to escape, he seizes it and goes on the run, desperate to clear his name for the sake of his family.

So begins a high-stakes game of cat and mouse across the city but Farrow is determined to get to the bottom of the crime of which he stands accused.

The series, written by Chris Lunt and produced by Red Production Company, also stars Rosie Cavaliero, Craig Parkinson and Adrian Edmondson and is expected to be broadcast in 2014.
