The Village nominated for three British Academy Television Awards

Nominations Announced for the BAFTA Television Awards in 2014

BAFTA announces the nominations for the Arqiva British Academy Television Awards, which reward the very best in television broadcast on British screens over the past year.

The Village (starring John Simm and Maxine Peake) and Broadchurch both received three nominations each, competing across the Leading Actress, Supporting Actor and Drama Series categories. Maxine Peake and Nico Mirallegro represent The Village with their respective acting nominations and go up against last year’s Leading Actress winner Olivia Colman and Supporting Actor David Bradley for their performances in Broadchurch. Joining them in Drama Series are My Mad Fat Diary and Top of the Lake.

The next BAFTA Television Awards will take place on Sunday 18 May 2014 at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, hosted by Graham Norton.

    Very surprised -and disappointed – that John wasn’t also nominated for Best Actor. There were some brilliant performances, admittedly – but John’s portrayal of John Middleton – and in particular one very shocking scene – is in a class of it’s own. One day, John – one day!

    Worthy nominees, no doubt, just would have liked to have seen John amongst them. With or without a BAFTA nod, he’s a most outstanding actor!

    It seems the Village will be nominated again for 2015. I may be mistaken but I hope so. It’s a worthy drama, a wonderful antithesis to Downton Abbey. Sorry John isn’t among the list. I’m not familiar with British T.V. nor am I a fan of television however, his performance is formidable.
