Step Back in Time in Hayfield
For weeks, the village of Hayfield has been transformed into a film set.
The second series of the Bafta-nominated drama The Village is currently being filmed in the area, which has been transported back to the 1920s for the show.
Shops, street scenes and even roads are almost unrecognisable as the period atmosphere is faithfully recreated.
Filming began at the end of March and is due to continue across the area until July with Hayfield, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Glossop and Edale again set to take centre stage, as well as Lyme Park, a new location for this year.
With so much disruption, the local residents have undoubtedly had to put up with a lot, but they’ve taken it all in their stride, according to the team behind the show.
Producer Tim Whitby said: “The locals have been absolutely lovely.”
Some local people have even been able to appear as extras in the show and many of the cast have stayed locally, including at The Royal Hotel during filming.
The second series of The Village, set in 1923, focuses on life after The Great War. John Simm and Maxine Peake return as John and Grace Middleton, with newcomer Tom Varey taking the role of their son Bert – the young man who never leaves the village but sees the world transform around him.
A number of new faces also arrive in the village in the second series, which is written by Peter Moffat.
The six new episodes are due to be broadcast later in the year.
