The Clapperboard Awards Ceremony returns to Liverpool, this year celebrating its 10th Anniversary.
Young people from across Merseyside have been involved in the whole production process from script to screen to deliver a number of diverse short films exploring issues such as mental health, identity, community, social welfare and civic pride.
They come together with their teachers, friends and families to display their work and achievements with the chance of winning a Clapperboard Award and to meet their on-screen idols.
Host actor Andrew Lancel says:
“I always try to make two events in Liverpool: Pride of Merseyside and the Clapperboard Awards. Both highlight what’s great about the city. Clapperboard shows the passion, creativity and indeed the issues of the young people and communities of the area in a unique way. I’m honoured to host this event which I never like to miss.”
This year’s judges include acclaimed writer Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, 24 Hour Party People, Dr Who) award-winning actor John Simm (Life on Mars, Doctor Who, Mad Dogs, Human Traffic), award winning producer Nicola Shindler (Scott & Bailey, Last Tango In Halifax, Happy Valley, Prey, The Driver) and ex Clapperboard volunteer Sascha Corkill.
John Simm says:
“It was an honour and a pleasure to be given the task of judging this year’s selection of short films…. And also very difficult! Clapperboard is a wonderful charity that helps to give young people a voice. Long may it continue, my congratulations to everybody involved in all of the films for their hard work and talent.”
Clapperboard UK’s film-making youth project is now in its eleventh year working with young people across the North West. The project is non-profit making and relies totally on funding and sponsorship.
